Lualatex problem with Win32 binaries in TeXLive installed under macOS

This might be relevant:
lualatex.fmt not portable between 32-bit/64-bit machines

It was the top result when I searched for: lua bad bytecode register

The problem might be related to big-little endian rather than 32-64 bit.

This issue was raised by Karl Berry.
