Howdy,

Sounds like root's $PATH does not contain the correct path since an older MacPorts version is being found.

Why did you use sudo when running `which mktexlsr`?

Where did you change the PATH? Since you have a MacPorts distribution change $PATH to prepend /usr/texbin (assuming you installed via the MacTeX installer).
