[tex-live] Using a --profile and relative TEXDIR

Hello all,

I'm trying to set up some automation for a test system. Part of that
requires doing an unattended TL installation. Following the instructions
on https://www.tug.org/texlive/quickinstall.html, I've first done a
manual installation to get a texlive.profile file, then used that for an
automated install after removing the TeX system.

All is fine if I use an absolutely unaltered file. However, as I'm not
using sudo I did the install in my home dir. That results in

    TEXDIR /home/joseph/texlive
    TEXMFCONFIG ~/.texlive2015/texmf-config
    TEXMFHOME ~/texmf
    TEXMFLOCAL /home/joseph/texlive/texmf-local
    TEXMFSYSCONFIG /home/joseph/texlive/texmf-config
    TEXMFSYSVAR /home/joseph/texlive/texmf-var
    TEXMFVAR ~/.texlive2015/texmf-var

where ~ has been expanded in the 'system' vars. If I edit them back to ~
then the installer fails. However, for my real use I can't rely on ~
expanding to anything fixed: how do I make this work?

(At present I'm going with install to /tmp as I can write there.)

Joseph
