[XeTeX] UTF8 and XeTeX?

Hi

I'm writing a source file in UTF8 and don't understand how to make XeTeX
process it.

Here is a minimal example:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\begin{document}
Hällo
\end{document}

pdflatex bla.tex works as expected.

xelatex bla.tex stops with:

! Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:äll not set up for use with
LaTeX.

Type  H <return>  for immediate help.

Which part of the manual (and which one? fontspec?) have I overlooked?
