Regarding \hrulefill and mathdesign package

Hello everyone!
This is my first mail in the mailing list, kindly forgive any rookie
mistakes I may make. I am writing this mail to raise awareness about a
potential issue that many TeXnicians can run into.

I ran into "leaders not followed by proper glue" errors while making a
change of font in my document. I had redefined my \headrule to achieve a
fancy look (using fourier-orns) and the redefinition used \hrulefill (taken
from the fancy-hdr documentation). As soon as I switched from MinionPro to
urw-garamond, LaTeX threw up several errors (noted above) and on googling
the error I wasn't able to make much sense of it. After 2.5 hours of trial
and error checks, I was able to realise that there was a connection between
my redefined \headrule and the mathdesign package (because the same errors
didn't arise with garamondx)

Then finally I stumbled upon a TeX StackExchange answer
<https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/135352/conflict-between-mathdesign-and-memoir-chapterstyle-ell/135356#135356>
and
following David's solution I was finally able to fix the issue. One of the
comments mentioned that the maintainers of the mathdesign package had been
notified but till this day the issue has not been resolved. I realise that
the mathdesign package is currently unmaintained, but I wanted to know if
something can be done at this point. Thanks for your consideration.

With regards,
Vatsal Garg
