\write and \immediate\write

Dear TeXperts,

when I put \write...  in a certain point of my TeX document, I get there a page
break that I don't want...  (Break that does not occur with
\immediate\write...)  Is there a way to avoid that break?  I can't reproduce an
example right now, will try to do if necessary...  For now, if you have an
`\immediate' answer...  ;-)
