Along the lines of R/knitr and Python/PythonTeX, please note Emacs 
Org mode.  Its Babel facility is language agnostic, so the user is 
free to mix R, Python, and about 3 dozen other supported 
languages.  Org mode has a lightweight markup syntax that it 
translates to LaTeX for pdf export.
