[texhax] otftotfm

Does anyone have any experience in converting an .otf metric file to .tfm
format, using the command `otftotfm' from lcdf-typetools linux package?
Examples shown at:

 https://www.lcdf.org/type/otftotfm.1.html

I did:

 $ otftotfm VectoraLTPro-Roman.otf

so obtaining a tfm file that then loaded as usual into tex with:

 \font\myfont=VectoraLTPro-Roman at 10pt

 \myfont hallo

does not produce the desired font... In its place, the default standard cmr10.

Please help whoever can. I know I can override the problem using xetex and
loading the font with:

 \font\myfont="[VectoraLTPro-Roman.otf]" at 10pt

, but I'd prefer as usual - as long as possible - using my dear old tools:
plain TeX -> dvips -z -> ps2pdf.

Thanks for any help,

Rodolfo
