[texhax] new member

Hi,
 
I was happy to join TUG, mainly because I have an article in WORD (10 pages single-spaced) I wish to publish in the J. of Geodesy. I have not sent it in yet, but I think they want me to submit it in LaTeX. I have downloaded their Springer SV JOUR3 document class package (and users guide 3.2) which includes a lot of files, most of which my computer doesn't recognize.
 
I bought a 2007 book by Gratzer, "More Math into LaTeX," and it directed me to TUG. Gratzer says I need WinEdt and MiKTeX, but the book is already 6 years old.
 
Please send the CDs with all the programs and files. Will they be self explanatory? I am retired at homeand do not work in an organization where there is a TeX expert.
