[texhax] Spacing with maketitle

Barbara, Steve and Phil,

Thanks for the replies and I am sorry for the less than timely
acknowledgment.  Both Steve and Phil's suggestions worked great,
although I must confess I understood Steve's a little better since I
am totally unfamiliar with the \kern command.  Thanks again!
