[texhax] How to wrap within pagewidth in \verb mode?

Dear all,

I am preparing a manuscript for a certain journal, which demands
tables in the format

\section*{Tables}
\subsection*{Table 1 - short title for table 1}
\verb|{detailed caption for table 1}|
                    .
                    .
                    .
        remaining table
                    .
                    .
                    .


However, latex tries to fit the detailed caption in \verb in a single
row/line on the page, so that only part of the caption is actually
visible. How do i wrap this text, so that it moves over to the next
line(s) beyond pagewidth?
