You can try accessing the remote pdf file with sshfs:

  http://fuse.sourceforge.net/sshfs.html

AFAIK, in Adobe Reader you'd have to close the file (Ctrl-W) and than
go back (Alt-left) in order to re-read the file.  Alternatively, you
can use a reader like xpdf which can re-read the file on the fly.
