[texhax] Enumerations, numbering

I have been looking up on enumerations in Kopka and Daly, but have not 
found what I am looking for.  What I what is to have a series of 
enumerations with normal paragrphs between them, where each new 
enumeration starts with the number of the last item number plus one, 
like this:

1 Item one

2 Item two

Normal paragraph ...

3 Item three

I am sure this must be possible, but I cannot see how.  Any suggestions?
