The long-awaited Unicode font support from the STIX Pub Group is now
available in beta test in OpenType format:

	http://www.stixfonts.org/

However, that site notes:

>> Regrettably, this beta test will not include TeX support. We expect
>> the TeX package to be ready for beta test near the end of this
>> year.

There is a confusing packaging glitch: when I downloaded the release,
it was stored locally as STIXBeta.gif, but it is actually a .zip file.

I forced an unpack of the file into an empty directory, and was then
able to drag the 29 font files into c:\Windows\Fonts on a Microsoft
Vista system, and then click on any of them to get a screen display of
a font sampler. The main font, STIXGeneral.otf, has 2511 glyphs.
fontforge on Unix systems also displays them nicely.

The STIX Pub Group consists of these folks:

	AIP (American Institute of Physics)
	ACS (American Chemical Society)
	AMS (American Mathematical Society)
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers)
	APS (American Physical Society)
	Elsevier (publisher)
	(see http://www.stixfonts.org/stipubs.html for links)
