No.  It's not obsolete.  It's still in use.

(I'm guessing that by "s/obsolete/current/" you mean "substitute [as
in sed] the for the word 'obsolete' the word 'current'".  At first I
thought you meant too put a subdirectory called 'current' underneath
one called 'obsolete'!)

The version number on the current pstricks.pdf is:

  PSTricks:
  PostScript macros for Generic TeX.
  User's Guide
  Timothy Van Zandt
  12 March 1993
  Version 0.93a

So I suggest naming the directory 0.93a.  On Unix boxes:

  mv obsolete 0.93a

A trick I often use is then to make a soft link pointer called
'current' to point to the current version.  On Unix boxes:

  ln -s 0.93a current

This way a person will always know what is current but all of the
previous versions are visible.
