[texhax] Footnotes: Numbering

As a newbie to Latex, I am continually amazed at the possibilities to 
produce very nicelooking documents.  However, there is (at the moment) 
one thing I do not like.  When you generate a footnote, it appears at 
the bottom of the page as it should, with a footnote number in front.

What I do not like is that the number is very close to the text of the 
footnote.  It it possible to increase this distance in some way?
