[texhax] Style file modification help

Hi 
I am writing my dissertation with latex. 
I need to change the page numbers font size (I dont know the command to 
include within the style file) and the vertical space from the top 
of the page of the 'Table of content' title. I tried to insert vspace
command into the 
style file where I guessed the table of content is created but it did 
not changed anything.
