I would respectfully suggest that there is another category of TeX users.  Those, like myself, who do not use distribution packages or "app stores", who download direct from one of the CTAN mirrors, and who are happy to accept that such repositories are offered in good faith but can (and do) offer no 100% guarantee that "what one downloads is what one expects".  They, like me, simply download whatever purports to be what they want (a TLNET directory, an ISO image, a package update, whatever) and install it without any checks, relying on their anti-virus/anti-malware suite(s) to detect and reject anything potentially dangerous.  This is, I would suggest, "the real world" for most people  — one in which one exercises special care when banking, paying online, etc., but otherwise just "goes with the flow", relying one one's anti-whatever stuff to deal with any nasties.
