texlive 2020 pdflatex waits for something

Hi,

The console output you mentioned is strange,
at least for two points;

(1) It says
> This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.21 (TeX Live 2020)
so it should be TL2020 but
> LaTeX2e <2017-04-15>
> Babel <3.10> and hyphenation patterns for 81 language(s) loaded.
so it claims LaTeX2e dated on 2017.
(The latest TL2020 has 2020-02-02 patch level 5)
Thus, your environment is not standard for some reason.

(2) Too many pages are written for your input:
> [1{/home/mathar/texlive/2020/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map}]
> [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12])
so 12 pages for just 6 \part commands?
It would not happen for any version of LaTeX, thus
I guess you have omitted some of the input code in your mail.
