Thank you Enrico; a configuration error on my part.  ugmm8a.pfb was 
indeed in C:\TeX\Legacy\TeX-MF\Local but the configuration file for TL 
2013 was incorrect; all now typesets correctly in TL 2013 but not in 
some later revisions — I shall continue to seek the cause of the latter.
