Can't install tl2019 - UI broken

> I have just downloaded install-tl-unx.tar.gz from https://tug.org/texlive/acquire-netinstall.html on MacOS X (latest OS). Then I have tried to install texlive 2019 (by running ./install-tl, but this fails at the earliest stage where I want to give a destination directory.

I have found out that there is --gui text  - so I am able to install tl2019. But the problem with the GUI install is still there.

The mentioned path /opt/texlive2019 is an empty directory which is writeable by me (no sudo needed).
