[tex-live] TeXLive uninstaller and path settings

Dear all,

This question bears on TeXLive on Windows. Usually, I keep some of the
previous TL installations on disk as a fallback option and for testing
purposes. During normal use only the latest distribution is on PATH.

In case I intend to uninstall one of the older TL installations, is it
required that the concerned installation is on PATH before running the
uninstaller from the system control panel? Or will the uninstaller work
as expected even when a different TL installation is active (i.e. is on
PATH)?

In other words: Is it safe to call "uninstall TeXLive 2014" from the
control panel (and will it work as expected) while TeXLive 2017 is
actually on PATH?
