Thanks. I was aware of afoot and many others (I have another
duplicate-finding script that I run every night) that have been around
for years, seemingly impossible to resolve, and no practical bugs have
been reported for them. So they remain.

As for [cC]herokee.tfm and the like, I hadn't thought about that, but it
shouldn't be a problem, because case-insensitive matching is not done in
texmf-dist.  --thanks again, karl.
