Curiouser and curiouser. Looking at '/', I seem to have been
building this system since February 24th.

ken at deluxe ~ $file `which latex`
/opt/texlive/2015/bin/x86_64-linux/latex: symbolic link to pdftex
ken at deluxe ~ $file `which pdftex`
/opt/texlive/2015/bin/x86_64-linux/pdftex: ELF 64-bit LSB
executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked,
interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 2.4.1,
stripped

BUT
ken at deluxe ~ $ls -l /opt/texlive/2015/bin/x86_64-linux/pdftex
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root root 2144384 Apr 12 2015 /opt/texlive/2015/bin/x86_64-linux/pdftex

ken at deluxe ~ $ls -l /opt/texlive/
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 Mar 1 23:59 2015
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 4096 Mar 1 23:35 texmf-local

Looking at my logs, /opt/texlive and all the directories under it
were added by install-tl-unx.
