Hi all,
I am back earlier than expected. But I wanted to solve this problem as
soon as possible. (But from now on, until at least October 12 I
have to do a lot of practical things not related to computers, so please
be patient if you expect any answer from me.)

.... a lot more

Well that could be risky to just delete all of them in /usr/local/bin
So, Nikola give me a hint about ports. But which ports? It was the
tex-synctex, tex-kpathsea and psutils ports that caused the problem. I
could not deinstall them without knowing it was safe i.e.:
===> Deinstalling tex-kpathsea-6.2.1_1
Updating database digests format: 100%
Checking integrity... done (0 conflicting
etc.
I append the whole operation I just did as ports.txt
> - again call tlmgr path add
This time the answer to that call was short:
root at maya [~] # tlmgr path add
add_link_dir_dir: /usr/local/info/dir exists; not making symlink.
tlmgr: action path returned a warning.
And as I see things, it must be OK. More than texlive use that
directory. And it seems OK for texlive 2015:
ataraxi at maya [/usr/local/info] > ls -l | grep texlive
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 56 5 Okt 00:42 asy-faq.info -> /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist/doc/info/asy-faq.info
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 58 5 Okt 00:42 asymptote.info -> /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist/doc/info/asymptote.info
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 55 5 Okt 00:42 dvipng.info -> /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist/doc/info/dvipng.info
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 54 5 Okt 00:42 dvips.info -> /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist/doc/info/dvips.info
... and a lot more
All this was done on my i386 laptop (maya), but now I think I know how
to manage the 'tlmgr' problem on my amd64 workstation (alice) sometime
after October 12.
Thank you very much Norbert, Nikola, Zdeněk and all others at
tex-live at tug.org --- THANK YOU VERY MUCH,
Conny
