[tex-live] Choosing mirrors

I do not use the gui normally either, just wondered why I kept getting a Dutch mirror instead of the very fast Danish mirror at dorsrc.org

it doesn't "choose" the closest, it goes to something that looks plausible.

huh?  mirror.ctan.org is a meta-address, doing nothing but redirecting
to some other site.

there are several "believed plausible" machines for any given location
of users.  mirror.ctan.org doesn't "remember" what it gave you last
time.

pass.  i don't use guis if i can help it, and hadn't read the blurbs
around that app.
