[tex-live] Fatal format file error; I'm stymied

How exactly did you extend the PATH?

The addition should go at the front.

Since you do not have write permissions in /usr/local it seems that PATH is not correct.

Why don't you ask those with root access to install a newer TL?

Subject: [tex-live] Fatal format file error; I'm stymied

Dear experts,

I installed TeX Live 2013 (30. June) via "install-tl -gui" (by choosing all default values, except the installation directory)
as a user on my office machine where I don't have root access, extended PATH appropriate and for this minimal example.

\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
Hallo
\end{document}

I get the following error message.

$ latex test.tex
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013)
restricted \write18 enabled.
---! /usr/local.hg/app/teTeX/current/texmf-var/web2c/pdftex/latex.fmt doesn't match pdftex.pool
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)

Obviously some "collision" with the system wide texlive installation, but as mentioned before, I
 have no admin rights, and therefore "fmtutil --all" did not work.

Before I had texlive 2012 installed exactly the same way as described above, which worked well.

What can I do?

thanks a lot for your help,
Georg
