[tex-live] .pfb in psfonts_t1.map and .ttf in pdftex.map, is it possible with updmap?

Hi,

I tried to search the documentation but did not find it.

Can one get updmap-sys in its generation of pdftex.map and
psfonts.map to put in the former (for a given font available
both in ttf and pfb formats) instructions to include the ttf
version, and in the latter the pfb versions?

Indeed I used ttf2pt1 to convert into pfb format some ttf
fonts, because I sometimes need to use them via the dvips+gs
route (in files using at the same time some other fonts on
which dvipdfmx produces output not opening properly in
Acrobat, so I can not use dvipdfmx on these files). But I have
read that this conversion sometimes is not optimal, so I
thought, if I ever use pdflatex, let it use the original ttf
files.

I can probably have some additional configuration for
pdflatex/dvipdfmx to tell them to disactivate the font.map and
use the font_with_ttf.map, but I naively thought that maybe if
I put in my TEXMFLOCAL/fonts/map/ distinct font.map files in
various directories pdftex/, dvips/, then the updmap would
know that the font.map to be used for pdftex resp. dvips would
have to be picked in the directory of that name. But it does
not seem to work that way. Or I got confused in my experiments.

regards,

Jean-Francois
