Thanks for the reply,
>>
>> I have observed a strange behavior when processing a document on two different Macs: on my laptop MacBookPro running 10.7.3 with TeXLive2011 the document comes out correctly. On a MacPro with 10.7.3 and the same TeXLive2011 distribution the printed document looks different. The typesetting is identical, but the spacing of the document is off: the text starts further down the page and more to the left and the interline spacing is different, so the text runs off the page.
>> This behavior does not depend on whether I use pdflatex or tex->dvi->pdf, and it does not depend on which previewer I use.
>>
>> So I am a bit at a loss here. Are there any hidden options somewhere that I am not aware of?

>> Thanks, Joerg

No, they don't. I see the different spacing already in Preview (or Skim).
