Remark that in his output the old latex (LaTeX2e <2009/09/24>)
works, while the new latex (LaTeX2e <2011/06/27>) has the problem.

Miguel made a similar bug report to the miktex bug tracker, where I
added this comment:

This is not a problem with the binaries but a side effect of some
code in the ini-file which tries to handle spaces in file names. See

The issue has also been discussed on the auctex list:

This sounds as if a recent auctex should already add the necessary 
 --jobname option.
