Macs are under consideration for much wider use in large organizations
where users do not have admin privileges. On Windows users are stuck
with portable MikTeX which has some limitations compared to a full
MiKTeX with admin. tools. A Portable MacTeX need not (cannot?)
provide all the
tools you get with full MacTeX.
