A couple of days back installed Linux Mint 10 (based on Ubuntu 10.10) on
a colleague's machine. Installed texlive-dummy and then installed kile
via apt-get as

   $ apt-get --no-install-recommends install kile

That prevented the pulling in of texlive from the ubuntu repo. Installed
TL10 and everything is working fine. You can try that.

If you are using synpatic, maybe there is an option/switch not to pull
in the recommended packages.
