[tex-live] Apropos for TeX Live?

I know I brought this up with Karl at the last TUG conference but I can't find anything in the archives when I search for ``apropos'' so here goes. Feel free to completely shoot this down if it's a bad idea.

I really like texdoc for finding information about a known package but I've often wished for a list of all packages pertaining to a particular problem; e.g., ``table creation.''

Is it at all possible to put together a `texdoc -a' option to search for key words and return a list of packages that refer to those key words, i.e., apropos? Are keywords collected at any level now (I seem to remember something along that line on CTAN but my memory can be very faulty)?

I'm NOT a programmer so can't do this job unless you want the job to go past my lifetime. :-)

Good Luck,
