(Akira posted some other answer that has probably not been approved
yet). I'll send an answer to that in a few minutes.

But that's a different issue from the one that I'm reporting here.
This one has to do with synonyms in language.ptx and is unrelated to
the need for the second version of patterns.

I'm ready to fix that, but I would need Akira's (or someone else's) directions.
