Certainly not in the near future, as there are many technical 
difficulties to level out. I hope this can be achieved shortly before 
biblatex 2.0 comes out though, since that version will no longer support 
bibtex as a backend engine, and will thus be entirely dependent on Biber.

@Karl and Norbert, I did not have time to reply to you about this yet. I
