[tex-live] long names in .tar files

I grabbed the two test files

	http://tug.org/~karl/longname-posix.tar
	http://tug.org/~karl/longname-ustar.tar

and tried them here with system versions of tar (excluding our several
GNU/Linux systems, all of which have GNU tar):

DEC Alpha OSF/1		longname-posix.tar: This doesn't look like a tar archive
			longname-ustar.tar: OK

FreeBSD 5.0		error "unknown file type `x'" with longname-posix.tar
			Filename truncated to 105 chars
			longname-ustar.tar: OK

FreeBSD 6.1		both OK

NetBSD 1.6		same as FreeBSD 5.0

OpenBSD 3.9		longname-posix.tar: truncated to 100 chars
			longname-ustar.tar: OK

OpenBSD 4.5		longname-posix.tar: truncated to 100 chars
			longname-ustar.tar: OK

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Intel	both OK

Mac OS X 10.5.8 PowerPC	both OK

Minix 3.1.2		longname-posix.tar: not recogised item 0170 Tar: header checksum error. 
			longname-ustar.tar: OK

MirBSD 10		same as OpenBSD 4.5

SGI IRIX MIPS		same as OpenBSD 4.5

Solaris 7 SPARC		longname-posix.tar: impossible file type100
			longname-ustar.tar: OK
			
Solaris 10 AMD64	same as OpenBSD 4.5

Solaris 10 SPARC	same as OpenBSD 4.5
