[tex-live] tlmgr update question

That is a BAD idea. You mixed
- installation SOURCE = repository = sync of tlnet = the place FROM where
  files are installed (/home/goossens/save/texlive/2009)
and
- the place where you install TO, the installation place, TEXDIR, or whatever.

That *does* and will not work.

Please call install-tl as above, and use as DESTINATION, i.e., TEXDIR
int the path settings, something else but the same checkout.

Yes becasue by installing *OVER* the checkedout repository you destroyed
data that was present there.

Mixing these two thing.

Imagine that the repository is somewhere on the net, the place where
Debian fetches its updated packages, sma ewith Ubuntu, smae with Suse,
same with Windows.

And Destination is the place of *your* installation.
