Hi, Norbert:

Yes. FreeBSD versions are just branches. CURRENT will become 5.0, 6.0,
7.0 and 8.0 in the future, while 6.0 will become 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4
and 6.5 in the future.
So it is not something like this:
6.1->6.2->6.3->6.4->7.0
rather, it is somewhat like this:
5.0=>6.0=>7.0=>8.0 (this is the mainstream. CURRENT will become x.0 on the road)
6.0->6.1->6.2->6.3->6.4->.. (6.x are just branches of the 6.0 RELEASE)
                       7.0->  7.1->  7.2
6.0 should always be released early than 7.0. however, it is possible
to release an improved bugfix 6.x release after the 7.0 release (where
new features are incorporated).
