pstopdf runs a ruby script, which should behave similarly to ps2pdf. Both
use ghostscript for the real work. Do you have multiple versions of ghostscript
installed? I think some 3rd party apps put a ghostscript in /usr/local/...
If you get a .pdf file use the Inspector in Preview.app to see which version
of ghostscript was used.
