I did get a low virtual memory warning, although the installer did
pull through.

The installation could be fixed afterwards by removing the TEXMFCNF
environment variable, then running mktexlsr and then regenerating
the formats with tlmgr.
It is probably a good idea to also remove the TLroot- and TEXMFTEMP
environment variables.
