    Also it is worth mentioning that on OpenBSD, the installer will hang
    at a "PKG_ONLY" message. I found it is waiting for tar input from
    stdin.

Sounds like a bug.  Can you please run
bash -vx install-tl.sh --debug

up to the point where the script hangs, interrupt it, and capture the
resulting voluminous stdout/stderr and send it to me (off list)?
