Back on this report from February:
There must be somewhere in a Makefile a reference to $EXXXX
instead of $(EXXXX)...
I am unable to find any bare $E in a Makefile. I did a test build after
export E=karltest and it worked fine.
If the problem persists for you, please try to track down what package
contains the problem ...
