This could be a bad .iso file (was the md5sum OK?), insufficient space
on the local
disk, or disk failures.   There may be more useful information in
dmesg or /var/log/messages.

TL2007 nearly fills a CD.  My CD reader, which had never given a
problem before, failed on TL2007.  I took the cover off and cleaned up
the accumulation of dusty grease at the end of the slide (a relatively
easy thing to do) It now works fine, so I assume lack of use with
nearly full disks meant the slide travel was being limited by dried up
lubricants mixed with dust.
