Arghh, yes:  This damn dvipsk-ja Debian package uses this most beloved
Debian misfeature of diverting dvips.  It works correctly with the
original one.  However:

There is no "dyy" in TeXlive's original tex.pro, see e.g. at
http://tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/texmf/dvips/base/tex.pro?revision=28&view=markup 

But it seems it isn't needed.
