Sorry, no. Compatibility with MS Office is at least ensured. Ok, you
can't expect to load files produced by version 11 with version 10
without a glitch. But onward is ok. 

Anyway, that was not the point. The point was that the same .doc document read
by OpenOffice last version and MS Office 11 looked awfully different;
the layout had a title and the rest of the page on 2 columns. Under MS
Office, only 1/3 of the secon column was filled up when both columns
were filled up under Open Office. Also under Open Office, the vertical
layout looked really weird.

Anyway, that means that you can't even use OpenOffice when your
colleagues/administration is using MS Office.
