the PL people are the same as the LM people; the CS maintainer are 
already discussing the move; the VN maintainers are aware of LM as well,

i exclusively use LM with the texnansi, ec, qx and x5 metrics (and soon with the el dense encoding metrics);  the only place where old cm metric files are used is in math

because context already had pl/cs/vn/etc support kind of hidden for the user (automatic) the change for users was not that large; no special packages need to be loaded and such
