The lcdf-typetools do read glyphlist.txt at runtime.  In my distribution, they 
read it from PREFIX/share/glyphlist.txt (they do not search for it in kpathsea). 
  I don't know what the TeXLive distribution does instead.  Probably I should 
update to search using kpathsea when available.
