Drat.  I was hoping the new tug.org (Red Hat WS 4) would be old enough.
Guess not.
    
    So the question: should I remade the binaries for Linux on even older
    installation?

Yes, it would seem so.  If you're running RH7, I'm sure plenty of other
people are too.
