[tex-live] Severe bug in texlive20040625 DVD image

Hi all,

I have just tried to install texlive2004 both from
the CD and from the DVD images dated 2004/06/25.

When I install from the DVD, *no binaries at all are installed*
the platform (i386-linux) is detected properly though.
A friend of mine reported to me that he had the same problem
installing TL2003 from the DVD... only the CD-inst installation
worked for him.

The installation ends with this:
Testing for /usr/local/TeX/TL2004/bin//texconfig....

See ./index.html for links to documentation.
The TeX Live web site (http://www.tug.org/texlive/)
will contain any updates and corrections.

Welcome to TeX Live!

Nothing tells the user that the installation failed in fact!
When the check for 'texconfig' fails, an error message
should be issued to tell the user that the installation failed
(OK, this case should never occur but ;-), "Welcome to TeX Live!"
is very misleading.

Let me point out another strange thing occuring only with the DVD
under the root directory (/usr/local/TeX/TL2004 for me) I have only
3 directories: texmf, texmf-var and xemtex

With the CD installation (GUTengerg scheme, same options), I get
  bin, texmf, texmf-dist, texmf-doc, texmf-var and xemtex
which is normal... except for xemtex I did not ask for installation.

Stuff going (this year) to texmf-dist, appears in texmf (as in the
2003 edition) when the installation is done from the TL2004 DVD.

Daniel Flipo.
