i wonder, how? anyway, for TeX it is impossible to know the terminal
encoding to make this work; in some cases it is simply impossible to
do this: e.g. when terminal is cyrillic, and the document is french;
and the whole business of readable out of the box log files is not
that important to make changes to TeX engine...
